Chairman Of LIPI Opening Speech

Lembaga penelitian pertama, terbesar dan terbaik di Indonesia

Remarks by Chairman of LIPI
Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.

The 4.0 industrial revolution presents formidable challenges in the nowadays global era. In fact, science and technology are evolving rapidly and information barriers are vanishing. Thus, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) must adapt to the present condition by transforming into a "contemporary institution" which presents quality research results and concrete benefits to wider communities.

LIPI must also be ready to work hard on improving the quality of research in Indonesia. As the scientific reference of research in this country, LIPI must be able to maintain public confidence by improving the quality of science and technology.

To achieve the best quality of current research, LIPI is expected to be able to take global action. At the same time, LIPI must be able to provide science and technology-based solutions to ranged problems for local communities. In other words, the main task is to make LIPI a global and, as well as, localised research institution.

To implement the main task, LIPI prioritizes three main programs. Firstly, LIPI continues to improve our internal research management according to the global norms and standards. Secondly, LIPI accelerates our capacity building and research competencies by enhancing the qualification of human resource (HR), recruiting diaspora massively, and collaborating with domestic and foreign partners. And thirdly, LIPI increases our role as a provider of national research infrastructure, human resources, and open collaborative hubs for science-based creative activities (academics, students and industry).

The programs are also a step towards the era of industrial revolution 4.0. In the future, LIPI encourages "open" research infrastructure that can be used by everyone, not only LIPI's researcher. So, there will be better interactions among academics, colleges, students, and industries. The main point is that to be able to compete, we need to collaborate in using technologies. Then, the novelty of research must be global and cannot be done alone. Research must involve many parties so that the results can be optimal.

Finally, we hope that research collaboration between LIPI and our stakeholders can produce significant research results with concrete impacts on the communities. Through LIPI's website, we publish most of our research results from various branches of science. We present it as a form of LIPI's accountability to stakeholders, both within the scientific community and the wider community. Hopefully what LIPI has done can make a valuable contribution to the global communities and the country, Indonesia.
