One of the efforts to get access to clean water is water treatment. Processed water sources can come from surface water such as rivers and lakes, from the sky, namely rainwater and groundwater. The source of water that is commonly treated comes from the surface, namely rivers. In Indonesia itself, the government has formed a PDAM (local water company) which is a business entity, formed in various regions, in order to treat water and meet the needs of clean water for the people.
Currently,
water treatment processes throughout Indonesia are experiencing many problems
in various aspects. During a visit carried out by the Executive Director of
APCE and the team to the PDAM (local water company) in the city of
Depok, West Java, Indonesia, several obstacles were found in the water
treatment process, namely preservation of raw water sources. The raw water that
is processed by PDAM of Depok City comes from the Ciliwung river. The flow of
water around the desludging installation is passed by a lot of rubbish and of
course because of the close proximity of the residential areas to the river
water flow, so that the intensity of the waste generated increases and disrupts
the process of distributing water to the treatment plant. Then another problem
that exists in the water treatment process, namely the residue from the
resulting treatment process. the resulting sludge is not treating with appropriate
and chemical material from laboratory that contains inorganic
compounds or even hazardous and toxic materials. Currently, chemical material
treatment is partly handed over to waste processing companies, and this of
course requires a large amount of money.
