Several problems related to water in the Asia Pacific region are sanitation, floods, drought, pollution and biodiversity. explained Prof. Ignasius DA Sutapa, Executive Director of the Asia Pacific Center for Ecohydrology at International Conference on the Ocean and Earth Sciences (18 - 19/11)
"Ecohydrology approach as a new concept for managing water quality, which consists of the principles of hydrology, ecology, ecotechnology and culture. With these four principles, an ecohydrological modeling and measurement system will be developed to estimate the risk of disasters related to water, "said Ignas.
He said the Asia Pacific Center for Ecohydrology (APCE) is a category II institution under UNESCO. "APCE plays a role in environmental and ecological issues for the sustainability of water supply as an environmental service and an ecological component for the community," he explained.
Ignas emphasized that the development of an ecohydrological demosite area with the theme of ecology and ecohydrology as a water management solution in Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region will be carried out in the Saguling Reservoir.
"This area is the first location as an area for implementing new concepts to address water quality problems. Demosite development can support the achievement of the SGGs 2030 target, he explained.(yli)
