Ecohydrology a Transdisciplinary Tool for Water Security

Cibinong,  LIPI. The Asia Pacific region is closely related to issues water resources such as pollution, landslides, floods and others. "We have to use all knowledge to solve this problem, because it does not only use one aspect of science but uses different aspects of science, not only hydrology and ecology but cultural aspects are also important," explained Prof. Ignasius DA Sutapa, Executive Director of the Asia Pacific Center for Ecohydrology at the Webinar Ecohydrology a Transdisciplinary Tool for Water Security held by UNESCO Office Jakarta (17/9)

Asia Pacific Center for Ecohydrology (APCE) is  UNESCO Category II Center, organized by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia through the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) since March 28, 2011. APCE has the task and function of identifying water resource problems in the Asia and Pacific region as well as potential the solution is through the concept of ecohydrology.

Ignasius explained that by incorporating local wisdom we can accelerate overcoming the problem of water resources in the Asia Pacific region, especially Indonesia. "APCE has tried to carry out several ecohydrology application activities, including the ecohydrology demosite in the Saguling Reservoir and its surroundings, which have become the Asia Pacific Center for Ecohydrology ecohydrology demosite. This is to introduce more widely to local communities, stakeholders, local governments and even scientists that we can improve conditions by integrating various aspects of science, "he said.

He explained that he had begun to develop ecohydrological demosite as a place to store water originating from upstream in Situ Cibuntu, Cibinong. "We are introducing the concept of balanced ecohydrology maintenance so that water resources can be used and managed properly, so that ecohydrology will become a Transdisciplinary Tool for Water Security in the future and due to the impact of the current COVID-19 pandemic, Ignas concluded optimistically.
