Drinking Water For society in Covid-19 Pandemic Era


Cibinong, LIPI Public relations. One of the key of the endurance body toward Covid-19 virus is a body endurance or immunity in restraining the spread of covid-19 which infect human’s body. The avaibility of a balance and sufficient nutrient, drinking water support and a healthy sanitation are extremely determine the formed of immunity.” We need to prepare a new normal because vaccine has not been invented and it needs a time process to use it,”said Dr. L.T. Handoko as the chief of LIPI in Webinar “Drinking Water Service and  Society Behaviour in Covid-19 Pandemic Era” (22/5).


Handoko said that eventhough LIPI and Health Ministry through Balitbangkes have already worked together to develop medcines and vaccine, however to preserve the  immunity it needed a body endurance from a nutritious food and drinking water so  the avaibility of drinking water and healthy sanitation must be able to be consumed by the common society since all society have not consumed the clean water yet that is appropriate with a prevail standard ” so in this pandemic era we need to think again to ensure the avaibility of healthy drinking water for a sustainable long phase to the society,” he asserted.”

He hopes the webinar that is held upon the collaboration of various sides expected can be a media to grasp the system of drinking water consumption from the society. “ If it is necessary it can change to adapt with a new normal where we must live together with covid-19,”he added.”

Handoko conveyed LIPI together with others are able to develop various innovation soon, the system and technology to support the acceleration fulfillment of drinking water service appropriate with a prevail standard continually not only in this pandemic era but also continuous constantly.” We can make a business process related to the management of drinking water which can ensure the avaibility of the Indonesian whole society, it also the avaibility of raw water in every season is essential,  “he talked.”

We can provide socialiszation, comprehension and also a behaviour of water thrift to the whole lining of society, “ he said.” Prof. Dr. Ignasius D.A. Sutapa, MSc. as the Executive Director of Asia Pacific Center for Ecohydrology (APCE) explained that water is a primary needs that must be fulfilled whereas the scope of drinking water service in Indonesia is less adequate.” By understanding the water cycle will help the eforts of the use and the management of water wisely,”Ignasius explained. Moreover, technology innovation, such as IPAG60, is extremely needed to support the fulfillment of drinking water service especially in the marginal area like a region with the raw water is peat moss.
He added that the lunge of Covid-19 pandemic is influential toward the entrepeneur, the provider of clean drinking water, bottled drinking water but has the impact toward the management and the use of water to support life as well.

Webinar is held by LIPI through Asia Pacific Centre for Ecohydrology (APCE) – UNESCO Category II Centre/LIPI and Pusat Pendidikan dan Pelatihan (Pusbindiklat) LIPI.The purposes of this webinar are : 1) to understand the dynamics of the  society behaviour’s change  in using water to fulfill daily needs, 2) to discuss the barrier and the solution which are faced by the provider of drinking water service, 3) to raise the concern of funtionary interest and broad society toward the use of water wisely, 4) to provide input to the government related to the policy in drinking water sector.
